Aspiring software engineers and web developers often turn to bootcamps to launch their careers. Bootcamps offer a practical curriculum that can teach people to code in just weeks.

Now more than ever, people are looking for online coding bootcamps, which allow you to learn safely from anywhere. While many bootcamps have added remote options in 2020, programs range wildly in experience, time commitment, price, and outcomes. To help get you started, we’ve put together a list of the best online coding bootcamps that have offered remote learning options for years. Use this list to find the right bootcamp for your remote learning needs.

1. Flatiron School

The online bootcamp Flatiron School has years of experience running live coding programs. They offer part-time, full-time, and even self-paced online courses in software engineering and data science. Courses include 1-on-1 career coaching, small class sizes, and guaranteed job placement or your money back. They were listed as the best online bootcamp by Career Karma and were included in Course Report’s top 35 online bootcamps. Tuition for Flatiron’s online courses ranges from $9,600 to $15,000.

2. BrainStation

BrainStation is a popular bootcamp that offers remote coding programs. They teach courses on web development, data science, and other tech topics. Their full-time online coding programs last about 12 weeks and cost about $15,000. Their courses feature a project-based curriculum and lots of 1-on-1 support. Students build polished portfolio projects, participate in professional development, and have access to 1,000+ hiring partners including Facebook, Google, Microsoft, and many more.

3. General Assembly

Another bootcamp with established online options, General Assembly has tracks in software engineering, web dev, data science, and other coding topics. Their hands-on curriculum has students solve real-world problems, featuring case studies from real businesses and insightful talks featuring industry pros. Students graduate with a polished portfolio reviewed by elite instructors who have experience working at top tech companies. General Assembly has found 12,000+ students jobs in tech, with a huge alumni network of 40,000+ graduates.

Their full-time remote courses last about 12 weeks and cost around $14,950. Students in the full-time courses work with career coaches to polish their resumes and prepare for interviews. 4. Lambda School

Lambda School is an online coding bootcamp that teaches students the skills they need to launch a career in web dev or data science. Both their 9-month full-time program and their part-time 18-month program are totally remote. Both place an emphasis on in-demand JavaScript skills. Students in the web dev program learn to build full stack web apps with JavaScript, HTML, CSS, Node, React, Python, Redux, and SQL. The curriculum also covers front end, back end, and mobile development.

Their online experience simulates tech job environments with team projects, live instruction, pair programming exercises, and lots of code reviews. Instructors are available at all times and their immersive environment encourages student collaboration. Students meet 1-on-1 with career coaches to polish their resumes, practice for interviews, and prepare for the job search. Tuition is usually $30k, but has been temporarily reduced to $15k due to Covid-19. A 17% income share agreement (ISA) is also available. Students who choose this option only pay once they land a job with a yearly salary above $50k.

5. Thinkful

Online learners interested in 1-on-1 mentoring can check out Thinkful. They offer full-time and part-time courses in software engineering, data science, data analytics, and other tech subjects. All of their programs are remote and hands-on, empowering students to build polished portfolio projects. Students meet 1-on-1 with experienced industry mentors to help with the material and job search. TAs and instructors are available to answer questions 24/7 on the course Slack channel. Students can choose to pay full tuition ($9k-$18,550 depending on the course) or a 15% income share agreement (ISA). If students don’t land a tech job that pays more than $40k after graduation, the cost of their program is refunded.

6. Kenzie Academy

The full-time tech bootcamp Kenzie Academy offers both in-person and online courses in software engineering & UX design and front-end engineering. Students in their software engineering course learn to build full stack web apps, working with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, SQL, React, Python, and Django. The program hosts guest speakers and runs AMA (Ask Me Anything) events with some of the biggest leaders in the industry, including AOL Founder Steve Case and 2020 U.S. presidential candidate Andrew Yang, who is also on the Kenzie advisory board.

The career services team also works 1-on-1 with students to help them land a great job. Kenzie Academy also has a large network of hiring partners that actively seek out students. Tuition for the 12-month software engineering program is $24,000. They offer a 13% ISA so students who choose this option don’t pay until they land a tech job with a salary over $40k. 7. Coding Dojo

Coding Dojo is a coding bootcamp with both online and on-site options. They teach full-time, part-time, and even self-paced courses in software development, data science, and product management. Their online program has been offered for over half a decade. The software engineering program teaches students to build full stack web apps using Python, Java, and MERN.

Their career services team helps with the post-graduation job hunt, providing students with resume reviews, interview prep, portfolio reviews, hiring manager communication, job search best practices, and negotiation support. Tuition is $14,995 for their full-time software development course and $6,995 for their part-time software development program. Free introductory coding courses are also available.

8. CodeX Academy

CodeX Academy is an online, self-paced coding bootcamp with mentorship opportunities. They offer part-time add full-time courses in front-end development, full stack development, and full stack engineering. Students work 1-on-1 with a mentor daily, building polished projects they can add to their portfolios. The program is self-paced and “mastery-based”, meaning students only move on from a topic when they are sure they really got it down. Tuition ranges from $4,500 to $13,500. All courses include career services and access to hiring partners like Batchery and Hero Unit. 9. Skillcrush

The online program Skillcrush teaches a 12-week self-paced bootcamp. They offer 13 different tech courses including coding tracks in front-end development and full stack development with Ruby. Their flexible courses are project-based and led by experienced mentors, with office hours and lots of opportunities for students to get feedback. The front-end development program costs $699 while all the other individual courses cost $549. A free introductory coding camp is now available to give students a taste of their program, teaching the fundamentals of HTML, CSS, UX, WordPress, and more.

10. Springboard

Springboard is an educational resource that helps people launch a career in tech. Students in the software engineering career track learn the ins and outs of front-end development, back-end development, databases, data structures, and algorithms. The curriculum is hands-on, so students get the opportunity to build 14 polished coding projects that they can add to their portfolios. Industry mentors work 1-on-1 with students every week. 11. Udacity 

Udacity offers self-paced courses for aspiring software engineers, web developers, and data scientists. Most of their intro courses are free. But, students can also choose to participate in full paid “nanodegree” programs that cost $599-$1,199. Students in the intro to programming nanodegree learn to work code in HTML, CSS, and Python. They also have more advanced nanodegrees in C++, Android coding, and data structures.

All programs are practical and hands-on, giving students the opportunity to build polished portfolio projects. Every student is paired with an industry mentor to guide them through the program and answer any questions.
