A review of Victory Lap as a sales bootcamp

Hi, I’m Alex! I’ve been working in sales for innovative startups like SoftBank Robotics as well as large corporations like NBC Universal for years. Now, I work as an industry mentor at Pathrise to help people land great sales jobs through workshops and 1-on-1 mentorship. Check out my review of Victory Lap.

What does Victory Lap do?

Victory Lap is an online sales bootcamp. Their program teaches people all the skills they need to land entry level sales jobs such as sales development representative (SDR), business development representative (BDR), and account executive.

Their flagship sales bootcamp meets for 8 weeks. The curriculum features a mix of self-paced learning and instructor-led courses with lots of hands-on practice. Weekly live sessions often take on a conversational approach as instructors lead discussions and then give students a chance to apply practical examples in Zoom break-out sessions.

The curriculum covers foundational sales skills in-demand at Chicago’s top tech companies, as well as more advanced topics like sales prospecting strategies and how to close deals through virtual product demos. Their program also allows students to work full-time or part-time as a business development representative while taking the bootcamp. This on-the-job training model helps offset the cost of tuition.

The bootcamp also includes career services. Students work 1-on-1 with career coaches on their resumes, interview preparation, and salary negotiation. In addition to Victory Lap’s corporate network, graduates get access to their 900+ person alumni community.

Who is Victory Lap for?

People with little or no experience in sales could benefit from Victory Lap’s bootcamp. The program is especially helpful for people seeking a remote but still hands-on learning experience.

What does Victory Lap cost? How much work is involved?

Tuition for their flagship sales course is $8,900. Students who pay upfront get a $2,000 discount, making the standard tuition $6,900.

An income share agreement (ISA) is also available. Students who choose this option don’t pay anything until they land a job that pays more than $30,000. Then, they pay 8% of their income for 24 months or until they’ve paid $15,000.

The admissions process begins with a brief online application. Next, candidates have a 30 minute advisory call with the admissions team. Candidates move on to a final writing assignment about their goals and motivations.

Ratings and reviews

Victory Lap has received mostly positive reviews. They hold a 4.9/5 star rating on G2, where grads rave about the hands-on training and collaborative environment. One student appreciated the “lively discussions” and described their program network as a “community of experienced professionals.” However, the grad had wished that “breakout groups had been a bit more structured and consistently active.” Another grad was impressed that the curriculum used “a ton of real-world examples” and sales skills that students “began applying hours later.”

The bootcamp holds a 5/5 star rating on Glassdoor. One student felt instructors did a “very good job of explaining” complex sales concepts through collaborative discussions. Another grad described the instructors and coaches as “genuine” and felt they “really want the best for you.”

On Google Reviews, the bootcamp is rated 4.6/5 stars. Grads valued the curriculum’s “real life experience” and “one-on-one support every step of the way.” However, one person was more critical, warning that the course’s networking events are “badly organized” and that “companies that they promise you to show up, never do.” Overall, most grads were extremely satisfied with the bootcamp’s curriculum and job support, but a few students would have liked more organization, especially in breakout discussions.
