A review of Korn Ferry Advance as a career coaching tool

What does Korn Ferry Advance do?

Korn Ferry Advance is a fairly new career coaching subscription service that helps candidates with all aspects of their career, from resume to promotions. They are a subsidiary of Korn Ferry, a global consulting firm focused on strategic and organizational change. The firm also helps place candidates in roles at their partner companies.

The organization uses fitness as a metaphor for the work they do. They are like a “personal trainer for your career”. They offer resume help, behavioral interview prep via their AI interview bot, career coaching, and negotiation advice for members. KF Advance does not do any technical interview preparation or specific industry-based coaching.

Who is Korn Ferry Advance for?

People looking for jobs in tech, like software engineering, product design, product management, and data science might find that the program is not a good fit because they will not receive technical interview prep. Those who are looking for jobs in less technical fields are likely a better fit for this program. FK Advance also seems to be more suited for people who have been working for some time, rather than those just out of college or grad school.

What does Korn Ferry Advance cost? How much work is involved?

KF Advance is a subscription service. Members pay $49 a month for access to chat support, coaching sessions, a job board, and a book written by the CEO. After signing up for a membership, users take a career assessment. This gives their coach a better sense of where they are in their job search or career and what their goals are with the program.

Ratings and reviews

There are no reviews online about Korn Ferry Advance. Therefore, it is difficult to gauge how people feel about the program. They have one testimonial on the site. But, it is a little confusing as it’s from a woman who worked in marketing for 25 years and then got a job in the operating room of a hospital.

Given their connection to Korn Ferry, which has been around for over 70 years, they have some interesting partnerships. For example, SoFi, the online lending platform, offers KF Advance to their customers for free. They are also partners with the University of Miami Business School (MBS). It provide students in the program access to the KF Advance career coaches.

Alternatives to Korn Ferry Advance

The Muse also has a career coaching option for people who feel lost or stuck in their career. They offer variations in level of coaching that correlate with price.

If you are looking to learn more about specific company processes and technologies, you can check out Rooftop Slushie, a new platform where job-seekers can ask questions and employees answer them. Users pay what they think is fair for the answers.

How does Korn Ferry Advance compare to Pathrise?

Korn Ferry Advance works with people to help them advance their careers – oftentimes focusing on developing better leadership tools, getting a promotion, or transitioning to a new field. They mainly work with less technical positions.

Pathrise is a full service organization, working with candidates through all stages of the job search. Fellows work with an advisor that is specific to their industry (software engineering, product design, product management, marketing, strategy, and operations) as well as a career advisor in 1-on-1 sessions.

Specifically, we work with candidates on optimizing their resumes and online profiles, preparing for technical and behavioral interviews, as well as negotiation tactics for offers. Through workshops, technical peer assessments, and our forum, fellows get an opportunity to meet and collaborate with people like them. We represent the candidates, which means that we can help connect them with any and all companies.

We don’t charge anything up front, so when you are looking for your first job or when you are in between positions, you never need to worry about money until you are hired and working again. Fellows can interact with their advisors as much as they need to (within reason) and our scheduling is extremely flexible, meaning they can get help at the exact time that they need it.

Pathrise is a career accelerator that works with students and professionals 1-on-1 so they can land their dream job in tech. With our tips and guidance, our fellows have seen their applications responses triple and their interview scores double.

If you want to work with any of our mentors 1-on-1 to get help with your technical interviews or with any other aspect of the job search, become a Pathrise fellow.
